Preparing young people with skills for life

We're Scouts and everyone is welcome here. Every week, we help almost half a million people aged 4-25 develop skills for life. Are you ready to join the adventure?

Welcome to 1st Camelsdale

We’re a friendly Scout Group based on Marley Lane in Camelsdale, a small village just outside Haslemere in West Sussex. We’ve been part of the village for over 100 years, helping generations of young people try new things, build confidence and discover what they’re capable of.

Every week our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts get stuck into adventures big and small – from den building and fire lighting to cooking, camping, games, challenges and the occasional slightly chaotic experiment.

Mostly though, we help young people do what young people do best: give things a go, make friends, and surprise themselves.

So, what do Scouts do?

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing.

But, we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

Every week we give almost half a million 4-25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your young person’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it.

When we meet

We meet during term time at our HQ on Marley Lane.

Cubs (ages 8–10½)

Who can join?

Scouts is open to all young people aged 6–14 in our local area.

You don’t need any special skills or experience – just curiosity, energy and a willingness to try something new.

Everyone’s welcome

Scouting is for everyone.

We welcome young people and volunteers of all genders, backgrounds, races, abilities and faiths. What matters most is creating a place where people feel they belong, feel respected and can be themselves.

Volunteers (we always need them!)

Behind every great Scout night is a team of volunteers.

Some run activities.
Some help organise camps.
Some make the tea, fix things or keep everything ticking along.

If you’ve got a bit of time and want to help young people grow in confidence, make friends and learn skills for life, we’d love to hear from you.

No experience needed – just a willingness to pitch in.
